  • STUDIO & EVENTS MANAGER POSITION

    Tin Can Studios is an ever-growing floral design studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn. We specialize in creating lush, sophisticated flower arrangements as well as large scale floral installations for events and weddings.

    As we keep expanding we are looking for a part-time studio manager (we need someone who can grow with us and potentially work more hours moving forward). The candidate should have a great eye for color, form and design, be creative as well as have a strong interest in flowers. A background in events management as well as sales experience is a huge plus. Please note that although the position is in a floral studio the role does not involve actual flower arranging. Important to note: we are not a flower shop.

    The perfect candidate is someone who takes initiative and is excited about being part of a quickly expanding business. Organization is key in this role, as well as excellent communication skills alongside with the flexibility to roll with the ever changing landscape. Willingness to dive in and get things done independently is key.

    Responsibilities:
    - coordinate event logistics, timing for load-in, load-out, tear-down, deliveries, oversee install process, help with placement, help supervise on-site, etc
    - assist in creating color palettes, help source images for mood boards, inspiration decks and presentations
    - assistance with writing proposals for weddings and events
    - assist creative director and owner with various types of inquiries
    - assistance with ordering flowers and sourcing materials for events; help make cost effective decisions
    - book and manage staffing = freelancers, apprentices and intern schedules
    - calculate and manage budgets for events
    - coordinate and participate actively in client meetings
    - manage online orders and deliveries
    - manage website updates (Shopify)
    - edit and organize product photos
    - manage payments and invoices + minor bookkeeping
    - answer email inquiries and phone calls
    - manage calendar entries
    - keep studio organized and tidy, have all necessary supplies for day-to-day work
    - other tasks related to events and studio work

    Requirements:
    - excellent communicator, ultra friendly and professional demeanor (both verbal and written)
    - proficiency with Mac computers, + standard programs e.g. DropBox and GMail, Google Sheets, GoogleDocs, etc
    - Adobe CC programs: InDesign and Photoshop especially
    - strong interest in flowers, color and design
    - 3D programs and or sketching skills are also a strong plus

    Skills, experience and personality traits needed:
    - 1+ years of events planning experience or similar; or 1 + years in a studio management position (or both)
    - interest in effectively supervising a successful team
    - ability to respond quickly to changing priorities
    - able to plan, prioritize, organize, and delegate work effectively
    - proven strength in decision making
    - outstanding client communication
    - collaborative and excels at building relationships with clients
    - experienced working in a fast paced environment
    - function effectively as part of a larger, multidisciplinary team when needed
    - thrives at problem solving
    - positive attitude and upbeat disposition
    - strong work ethic and attention to detail

    Job type:
    25-30 hours/week. Hours could potentially increase. Compensation based on skills and experience.
